Rules & Conditions
This is an open competition — all artists 18 years of age and older working in two-dimensional painting, drawing, pastel, mixed media, photography and sculpture are eligible to enter provided they meet the rules. . Any work previously submitted to Exhibeo art competitions that has already won a prize cannot be resubmitted to a new Exhibeo art competition. No copies from other artists’ works or paintings from other artists’ photographs or from published material will be allowed. Upon submitting your work to this competition, you are solely responsible for any infringement on copyrighted materials. If we are notified by a third party that your image is infringing on copyrighted material belonging to someone other than you, we will remove the image from our online gallery and disqualify you from the competition. Ripping off other people’s work is lame. Don’t do it.
Top three winners of all Exhibeo Art Competitions receive press coverage in our online art magazine. We also offer cash prizes for select art competitions. If there is a cash prize, it will be stated in the prospectus.
Press coverage breaks down like this:
- 1st place winners are featured in an in-depth interview published in our online magazine, including multiple images of the artist’s body of work. The interview will be published in Exhibeo’s online art magazine within approximately 30 days of the competition’s close date. (estimated value $1000... and considering the time and energy that goes into this, we think we’re low balling this one).
- Note that even if you don’t win the competition, your art is still featured and archived on our online gallery set up for each of our competitions.
Competition winners will be notified within 30-31 days of the competition close date.
In the event that cash prizes are included in any given art competition, said cash prizes will be paid directly to the artist through Paypal within 30 days of winner notification. You must provide us with the email you use for your Paypal account in order for us to deposit your cash prize in your Paypal Account.
Upon initial notification of winning an Exhibeo Art Competition that includes a cash prize, you have 30 days to provide us with a viable email address linked to your Paypal account to claim your cash prize. If you don't provide Exhibeo with the information we need to process your payment within 30 days, you forfeit your cash prize.
You must submit your entry form (including your images) by the close date of the competition you’ve selected on the submission form. The close date always ends at midnight Eastern Standard time of the close date. Any submissions submitted after the competition’s deadline date and time will be disqualified without refund, so don’t wait to the last minute to apply. If you miss the deadline, don’t sweat it... there’s always the next competition.
Also note that we reserve the right to change the deadline of any given competition. It is not unusual for us to extend a competition's deadline.
Before submitting your entries, you must agree to our rules and conditions. All fields marked *Required must be filled in for a successful submission. If your form is incomplete, we may reject your submission. We strongly encourage you to take the time to fill in the field entitled “Tell us about the artwork”. We want to learn about your thought process, emotional impulse or any other motivating factor behind the painting. This will greatly help us contextualize your work. Do not describe the painting (we can do that ourselves by looking at it). Tell us the story behind it. While we will not disqualify you for failing to fill out this field, your chances of winning the competition will definately increase if do. Just saying.
This is REALLY important: You must provide us with the same email in your contact information on the submission form as the one you have registered with your Paypal account. This avoids any confusion between the person making the payment and the material received. All entry fee payments are non-refundable and final.
Picture Labelling and Submission
As you fill out the submission form, you will be asked to upload your images according to the package you selected. Once we’ve received your payment and made sure that the content (remember: keep it clean!) and the quality of your photos are okay, we’ll upload them to the online gallery specifically set up for each competition. Allow 48 hours for your images to appear on the competition’s online gallery.
Note that if your images violate any clause in our rules and conditions, or if the quality of your images is too poor, we will not post them on the competition’s gallery and they will be disqualified from the competition. If you want to know how to send great quality images, you can read a nifty guide we’ve put together for you called “How to Photograph Your Art Work in 10 Easy Steps”
You must fill in the required fields to upload your images successfully. Your image must be uploaded as a JPEG file. It should be no more than 800pixels on its widest or longest side, with a 150 dpi. The image must not exceed 2MB.
You must name your file by following this format:
Thus, if Jackson Pollock was an up and coming artist today submitting “Lavender Mist: Number 1” to an Exhibeo art contest, he would photograph his work, save it as a JPEG file and the file name would look like this:
All submission must be done by filling out the online submission form. We do not accept email or physical submissions.
There is an Entry Fee payable by Paypal, and this must be paid after uploading your images. You will then be redirected to proceed to checkout. There are three options:
- 1 image for $15
- 3 images for $30
- 5 images for $45.
All payments are final and non refundable. All payments are to be made in US dollars (USD). You can submit more than 5 images by making multiple submission (i.e. two 5 image submissions for a total of 10 images for $90).
There are no restrictions to the number of Exhibeo art contests you can submit work to at any given time. You can also make multiple entries to the competition. In other words, if you wish to enter 10 images you can do so by applying twice, selecting the 5 image package each time.
All entries received will be viewed and selected by a panel of three jurists from our editorial staff. If you are interested in learning more about our judging process you can read “How the Exhibeo Jury Panel Judges Your Art”.
Publication of Work
Sending the Entry Form and a completed payment will be taken as permission to publish the image you have uploaded to our site. Any work reproduced in this way will be given proper credit at all times. By entering any of our competitions you are granting us a non-exclusive license to publish your image on our website, our newsletter and any other promotional material (i.e social media, e-campaigns, coffee table books, etc). You nonetheless retain the copyright of your image.
Exhibeo art competitions are theme driven. While we are dedicated to a broad-minded approach to these themes, we ask that the artist submits work that is coherent with the theme of the competition. Work that fails to adhere to the theme (i.e. submitting a hyper realist painting in a competition focusing on abstract work) will be removed from the online gallery and disqualified from the competition. To avoid that, please make sure that your work is relevant to the theme of the competition. Open theme competitions are regularly scheduled, so if you don’t like being pegged down to a theme, feel free to sign up for open themed competitions when we feature them. If you sign up for our newsletter, you can be notified every time we feature a new competition.
Nudity versus Pornography
Exhibeo art competitions will occasionally feature figurative themes: the male or female nude, anatomy, the human figure in action or what have you. We are thus open to paintings depicting human adult naked bodies. However, we will not accept art that features child nudity. Nor will we accept images that depict graphic sexual acts deemed pornographic. Think of it this way: We would have no problems with Michangelo’s Adam, or Manet’s Olympia, or Francis Bacon’s “Triptych – Studies from the Human Body”, but we would pass on most of the images in Jeff Koonz’ “Made in Heaven”.
Submission of entry in this competition automatically constitutes the entrant's acceptance of all competition rules. The jury panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Winners will be notified by email and announced in our online magazine within 30 days of the deadline of the competition entered. First place winners are eligible for a full length interview which will be published in our online art magazine within 2 months of the competition's deadline. Cash prizes for selected competitions will be awarded to winners within 25 days of the deadline for the competition entered as long as all conditions have been met. These conditions are as follows: (1) you must have a Paypal account and (2) in the event of participating in an art competition involving the allotment of a cash prize, you must provide us with the email associated with you Paypal account. We will request that email one time, upon notifying you that you won a cash prize. It is your responsibility to follow through with that request. All competition cash prizes are awarded exclusively through Paypal. All participants entering an Exhibeo art competition must therefore have an active Paypal account in order to (a) pay their entry fee and upload images to our online gallery and (b) receive a cash prize in the event that submitted work has been selected for said cash prize.
Rules and Conditions Updates
